introduction

thanks so much for signing up to a place on the 'Ignite your Influence' Course! Before we go ahead and get into it, I'd love to tell you a little more about me and how and why I started holler.

who am i?

(and why should you trust me?)

So before we go on with all of the amazing content we're going to learn in this course - it would be rude for me to not introduce myself, wouldn't it!

My name is Abigail Frances, I'm an Instagram and Social Media Marketing expert - and it is my goal and mission to share everything I've learnt over my 5+ years of education, experience and teaching, in a way that is easy to replicate and understand!

For many years my passion lay in growing accounts and businesses online, and over time - my passion became my area of expertise!

But I get the feeling you might want to know just a little bit more about me and my experience before we get into this whole shebang... you know, just so you know I am the real deal, the big cheese, the....

well, none of the above, perhaps, but a bloody good social media marketer at least!

So, yes.. hello! I'm Abigail - but you can call me Abi. I feel like we're friends now!

I got my start in marketing when I joined University to study my degree - four years late I had come out with a first class honours - graduating in the top 5% of my cohort with a year abroad working in Marketing and PR in Hawaii to match!

Alongside and after my first degree, I started to learn more and more about the subject. I completed several qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the world's leading Marketing body. I honed down on my expertise with additional diplomas in SEO (search engine optimisation) and social media marketing, and eventually I went on to get my Master's Degree in MA Journalism & Media Communication. During and after this time, I also managed to secure 5+ years working in various roles in Social Media Marketing, started a few different businesses, and landed a job lecturing in Marketing at the very University I studied at!

So I guess you could say I'm pretty educated in the field - but that's not all that matters! Yes, I've read a lot of books - and I've passed a whole bunch of exams, but where I really learnt what I know now, was through trial and error. Experience and practise. Starting businesses and failing, and then trying again and succeeding. Knowledge doesn't happen overnight. And it isn't guaranteed with a University

or - that's what makes you grow!

The best part about this? I can teach you exactly how to do everything that I've learnt to excel out - without the failing part! In essence, I've done the failing for you!

Over the next 4-Weeks, I am going to teach you everything I have learnt about building a productive, profitable, and engaging presence on Instagram, taken from experience I've gained in the 5+ years in industry, 2+ of teaching the subject at a university, and 8+ businesses I've built up from scratch!

This Course is going to teach you everything you need to grow and monetise your account - whether you're an entrepreneur, influencer, course maker, content creator, or small business owner - this course can be applied to YOU!

So....

I'll stop babbling on now shall I?

Let's get into the interesting bit!!

why Instagram?

At the time of writing this, Instagram has over 1 billion users, and this is only going to grow in size every single day. This makes it the third biggest social media site (messaging apps not included) in the world, after Facebook (1st) and Youtube (2nd).

Out of those 1billion - 71% are under 35 (meaning you need to get on this platform if you have a younger audience, and 71% if businesses are already on it (meaning if you're a business and you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, you're one of the few - and your competitors are!)

A survey conducted by Iconosquare revealed that 70% of users have at some point sought out a brand to follow on Instagram. 62% have followed brands they love and 41% are open to marketing messages and discounts. 65% of users also reported that they found it flattering when a brand liked their post.

Instagram's history

Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and first went live in October 2010 as a mobile app. The basic premise is very simple. Instagram allows you to upload a photo to your own profile and to view photos that others have uploaded on a feed. The objective here is to be more selective in your content than typical social media platforms such as Facebook. People adapted to generally uploading one single photo at a time, spending time cropping it, adding filters and generally making it look as artistic as possible. before they hit send.

It's for this reason that Instagram quickly became described by many as an opportunity to find art in everyday moments. Scrolling through the app, you'd see pictures of empty gyms, of wine glasses with lipstick stains, of sunsets, of running shoes covered in mud – all with different filters applied and a story to tell.

It took no time at all for the service to grow to 100 million users by April 2012 and 300 million by December 2014, unheard of growth in the industry at the time.

It wasn't long before Facebook would come knocking to make an offer on its ownership, and since then. A lot has changed

Instagram is no longer a platform solely concentrated on taking quick snaps and finding art in the every day.

And a pic of your running shoes is unlikely to bring in the followers now.

Since Facebook's acquisition, and increasingly as the years go on - Instagram has become a multi-dimensional platform. Full of colourful, niche, and varied communities. To grow now - you need to be producing real value. The type that leaves people better off once they've left your page than they were when they came. Through creating controversial, educational, entertaining, motivational, instructional and inspirational post. And a mixture of short, long, entertaining, a deep meaningful posts. Through short videos, carousels, stories and tell alls.

Instagram has changed a LOT.

And we're ready to teach you exactly how to master it!
